Saturday, October 24, 2009 School II Bar and Bistro, Chanhassen, MN.  Dear Gigalogue:

We can’t deny it. Saturday night at School of the Wise II in Chan was another sporty outing with the likes of Shortwave kicking it all off. It was SRO. Reservations were just plumb smart. Nick mixed the show. How been den new lights? Thank you School…big improvement. We didn’t even need the tinker bell lights ion the mic stands but hey it felt artsy. A few of the guys in the crowd complained because the bright halo effect around the mic stands interfered with their “Maeviewing”. The guys in the all-guy orchestra, well, understand. We honed some newish songs all bound for the Next Maeflies Record. We’re excited about every aspect of the new record. It’s cool. We had plenty of dignitaries at the show: Dave and Mary Jaffray were there-Dave sat in with the Flies on Ain’t it a Shame, a Maeflies staple. They were spotted sitting with Team Pritzker and Kate Bryant and Jon Lindfors-kin to EMF (Epic Maeflies Fan) John Bryant ( who was somewhere else that night-must have been important), Stephen and Robin Streeter, Brian and Christine-the original Maeflies Fans!-were there. Heck Ned and Nel ditched Leslie and came to the show! John Ostby formerly of Spymob and now of Kentucky Air was seen chinning with the Shortwave team. Val and Bea were digging the scene. They had more people at their table than I even know, for crying out loud. Kim and Boxer were seen. Lee and Heather were sitting up front and they brought an international team of female rock fans. Very nice.

Thursday October 8, 2009   Lee’s Liquor Lounge, Minneapolis, MN.  Dear Gigalogue:

Call me Ishmael. We shared the bill with the always entertaining Melvilles at Lee’s Liquor Lounge last night. What a thoroughly enjoyable reminder of what rock and roll is all about: fun. Kudos to Dan the Fader Man at the mixing board. We had the best monitor mix of our career.

Professor Paul Norton and Sidekick Dave get the coveted “Maeflies Fan of the Night “ Grand Prize. Unfortunately Paul, you have won it so many times the Committee has disqualified you. Have you built a trophy case for all the other ones? Amy nee Simso showed up to root for Simmer, and we saw Tami Pavlek-before-she-was-Married. Glad you like King of Nothing! Wait’ll you here it on the record we’re finishing up. We made some new friends, and played mostly songs from the un-named and unreleased CD #2….we’ll get it out there late winter or spring. Promise. See you at The School of the Wise II in a couple of weeks! Please inflate all fun bags to maximum psi and come thirsty.

Friday October 2, 2009   Tailgating Extravaganza Outside at the Minneapolis Metrodome Plaza - Pre Twins Game.  Dear Gigalogue:

Rain rain go away. It poured at The Dome for the Jack 104 party but that didn’t matter. It was so cold you hardly noticed the water on the end of your nose. But the Twins won on their way to the ALDS 2009.. Powered by several mojitos-we were happy to help. Lynhurst rocked like it was 80 degrees and sunny. Something tells us there may be a reason so many rock acts domicile in balmy California. Wimps.

September 9, 2009 Peavey Plaza Minneapolis - LIVE UNITED Fund Raising Kick-off
Dear Gigalogue:

Half out of my mind...we were very pleased to share a stage with some our very fav songwriters. Your Maeflies were joined by Slygo ace Dave Jaffray at the Live United Peavey Plaza blow-out on a warm Wednesday afternoon in downtown Minneapolis. Simmer was somewhere else on Planet Earth-business ya know, so Dave sat in. Dave got an A. Whoa, what a bill: The ‘Flies, Ben Kyle & the boys of Romantica and Tim Mahoney all played to a lucky bunch of free-concert goers in the shadow of the Minneapolis skyline. After the various dignitaries made the case for supporting United Way, the bands made the case for buying the LIVE UNITED cd. Go to www.liveunitedtc.org/music/ for more details. Event Sound and Light always sound good and they did it again. Jaffray’s fans all came-including his lovely mom (a very good musician in her own right)-it was like a Blake reunion for awhile. Paul Norton came of course. Q: Does he have a job? A: Must be a good one ‘cause he’s never there. The Mayor and Bea plus Ann the usual suspects were perched on the good vantage points around the plaza: Shutterfly Pam Cariveau was spotted. Melissa Bride-of-the-Bass-Player, Leah “I Have a New Boyfriend” Swenson, Mary Jaffray, Lucy “Tack Now” Ferguson, Dave and Heidi Hust (Dave in heavy pinstripe mode) made it. Sharon U. and her Target counterparts were there to support the corporate cause. Jon Niess wasn’t there but we got Ben K. to autograph a record for him anyway. It was a gas and for a good cause. Now go buy The Ledge (as mixed by Jon Niess) by the Maeflies and the other tracks and know you are actually helping rock and roll change the world.

Thursday August 20, 2008 318 Music Cafe, Excelsior

Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.....been a long time, 318, since  we packed you to the gills. It was so hot in there the candles were  melting...the UNLIT candles were melting. We saw lots of familiar faces....Ann and Duane, Bea & the Mayor...whoa..Kim and Boxer, Lee &
Heather, Team Q with Murph and The Other Dude, Drew and Susan, Aaron  ("Rasputin") and Natasha....Gesmes, Missy, Deanne, Pam C, elli R,  Molly "I have a badge" S,..we even had rock royalty Stymie of the late great Daisy Dillman Band there. Almost wed Christine and Brian, clubbin moms Jennifer, Lisa, Margie & Katherine. I know we are forgetting some of you. (uh, Gary East Westman, Jimmy Dean Armour, for example)...oh yeah Jon Kietzer-you were drinking beer-but anyway, if we missed you send us an  email at maeflies.com and we'll add you. Anyway it was fun and we're NOT telling the Fire Marshall just how
crowded it was...about half way thru Dead Flowers we all thought we saw a fire engine pull up but it was just a heat-induced team hallucination....

Thursday August 14 , 2008 Cities 97 Oake on the Water at Lord Fletcher's

Fire in the Sky. Your Maeflies set up the gear under a right blue Minnesota summer sky at Lord Fletchers on big ol' Lake Minnetonka for Brian Oake's live Thursday broadcast. How cool is that? Our selection as a Sun Country Minnesota Music selection for their in-flight music service has really been a trip. Man, now I know where everybody goes on Thursdays in the summer....Oake on the Water...Greg Burke, Twin Cities Club Crawl Guru and All American Rock Critic, was there...at long last we meet THAT VOICE. Our interview with Brian Oake was a just as cool in person as he is on the airwaves....he was thoughtful enough to include lots of Goodbye Sometimes cd's in his Oake give-away gear. THANKS for the support Brian and Greg...

Tues August 12, 2008 Humphrey Terminal with Sun Country Airlines and Cities 97

Whatchoo gonna end up being? How cool was it to start our gig by saying hello to Dan Wilson ( yeah, THAT Dan Wilson...Trip Shakespeare, Semisonic, Mr. Free Life....)?? Tim Mahoney and George Faber were hanging around, too. Anyway, we kicked off an hour and a half of Flies Tunes with Vertigo and never looked back....it was a great group of Cities 97 winners, Sun Country executives and of course a few gate crashing Maeflies regulars ( Molly, uh, wasn't flashing the badge a little over the top?) all partying at Fletcher's Wharf in the terminal. Cool idea...the Sun Country people ( and we mean you Heidi and Xan!!!) have epitomized Minnesota Nice for 20 years. We had a gas! Special thanks to Chris and Jim from Event Sound and Lights....you guys rocked for us.
