October 6, 2007. CJ's Wine Bar, Chanhassen. Dear Gigalogue:

Is it a verb or a noun? Blast that is. It can be an action word of course, or a thing. We chose noun last night at CJ's with our friends and Brothers-in-Arms, Kentucky Air.We had a blast. Thanks to KA and their ardent fans for a killer set with all the cool songs we love including a Maeflies fav: Diesel Town. Dave the bartender kept the cold beer and cool vino coming on an unusually warm October night. Perfect. Ryan "The Fader" Nelson perpetuated the myth that all the really cool sound techs come from Iowa. Thanks Ryan. Kim & Boxer brought the whole famn damily, Bea and the Mayor were there, Ann & Duane parked the prairie schooner at the curb before returning Out West. Darril & Pam...thanks. Sam & Frank were their in the comfy chairs watching Mama. Requests?...well not usually, but Spike couldn't resist the "Dead Flowers" request from Maria, she is a favorite fan when they let her in the door! Brother Bob graced the 'flies with a whole set sitting in with his killer Slingerland kit. Man, was that fun or what? What a blast (noun) doing our songs with you and NO NET. You don't need one. Thank you..thank you.Congratulations to all you raffle winners. I think John Ostby got his chair upside down first.Zippo-sorry dude. Hey John, we'll see you get a new single of The Ledge anyway ( uh, that's kind of a Maeflies pun). We're back to the recording studio for more magnetizing new Maeflies songs.....

September 22, 2007. 400 Bar, Minneapolis. Dear Gigalogue:

How about you? Wow…the venerable 400 Bar on the West Bank on a Saturday Night….we had to pinch ourselves in the dressing room downstairs. Man, if those walls could talk. Mae slapped up a couple of Maeflies stickers. We drank almost-cold Grain Belt Premium in the basement like a real live Americana rock band. It’s a long way from the living room. Arlen the Sound Dude: You Rock, brother. What is it about sound techs from Iowa? Kinda weird. It takes a sturdy Flies Fan to get down to the 400 neighborhood in the dark…and the sturdiest made it. Thanks to the Rev. Paul Norton, Kim and Boxer (well, when you are escorted by Boxer you fear no man), Ed and Emily Cox & Co., Sweet Melissa Blue Eyes, Deanne, Darril and Pam ( Darril is a 400 stage-veteran...thanks man) Bergy, Jim Anderson-the-Rock-Historian, even Wam! inspiration (everybody’s got a secret, after all) Kurt Winters, Erik “White Pine” Paulsen. Our die-hard flies fans Brian and Christina....thanks.

Variety is the spice of life. Let’s go rock the flattops, mandolin and blow the harps at CJs! It’s a great spot to really hear the Maeflies, and even send up a request now and then (or a cold beer!)

August 25, 2007. The new Hallow at the Local Irish Pub.  Dear Gigalogue:

God loves the Irish. We can see why: The Hallow is really, really cool. And it’s just as cool as its kissing cousin -The Local. Kieran Folliard & Co - Thank you!!

Rick Olsen of Gig Tech -“Dr dB” - great job. We heard “great mix” all night long and even the next day. What a night we had Saturday night….the evening started in Diesel Town with Kentucky Air, next stop Maeflies, then on to the incomparable Alison Scott and Jason Shannon. Man, if you want a lot of cool Twin Cities bred music for $5, you had it in spades, brudda. What a cool vibe-makes one deeply grateful we don’t live in 95% of the other cities in the US ‘cause you ain’t got what this town’s got: indigenous rock vibe. Thanks to our beloved Flies Fans-you usual suspects carved out a few hours to come bob your heads to Wam! and Bad Seed…Christine and Brian, the Mayor and Bea, yes,Deanne, Melissa, Pam Cariveau, elli & Libby, Dean and Crop-top wife, Kim and Our Main Man Boxer, Ann & Maria, Jill & Tod, Cuz Ruth B....flies first-timer! We saw the Blake Bear mascot mingling around the room, stopping at John and Kate Bryant’s table complete with Jon Lindfors and on to Brad (did Petty write that?) and Lisa Warner, Tom Fansler, et al. Kevin Bowe was lighting it up on his very cool Guild Starfire. Steve Price was on fire on the bass and of course Golden Smog’s Peter Anderson was in charge of the back-beat.

We’re off to the venerable Americana (and everything else) venue The 400 on September 22. Now that’s a storied stage. Come see us….we’re going to be giving away some copies of an unreleased single. Major booty for the died-in-the-wool Flies Fan.

July 31, 2007.  Fine Line Music Cafe .  Dear Gigalogue:

In a busy little bar on a night like that one. Well, thank you Flies Fans for making it all the way to the Warehouse District for Fine Line show with your Maeflies. It was a gas to see so many of the you there. Kate Bryant and Pam Werley were there..buyin’ records and drinking vino. Thanks, girls. Who needs Mark and John? Real Deal Chris Eriksson was there with Rocco and the Tour de Force (not to be confused with all the phony dopers in the Tour de France). Hey..and thanks for buyin’ those cd’s….Mike & Gitte, Jon Kietzer, all present & accounted for and rarely leaving the vicinity of a bartender…Sharon & Karlyn, Robin, hubby & their beautiful off-spring (our 2 youngest Maefies fans, not doubt) thanks for listening close up. Simply Jim, Kristina & Pedro, Alana, Buff Mike G. (nice pipes) and Johnny D.....so happy to see you.

Val, Bea, Kim, Boxer..you guys are as much of a Maeflies show as a big orange bass guitar…THANKS. Ian Anderson (no, not the Jethro Tull dude..the REAL Ian Anderson)..great job on the sound check and the all the sound stuff…you got great reviews from Maeflies Fans who know a good mix when they hear it…like Darril Otto and (better-half) Pam. You two are so generous…

Let’s go rock The Hollow later this month Hot August nights, baby-made for rock shows with very cold beer. We’re betting you hear a new Maeflies Song (or two!!).

June 20, 2007.   Narrow's North - Basilica Cities 97 Battle of the Bands. Dear Gigalogue:

Well, you can't always get what you want. The Basilica Battle of the Bands may not have gone our way, but the 'flies know we won the Battle of the Fans. Thanks to you Maeflies Commandos who refused to let a middle-of-the-week night, tornado warnings, Little League, soccer or the siren song of your own warm bed keep you from the Narrows North. Christina and Brian - our flies radar caught you in the corner - thanks for following us! The Pocahontas Girls-you two rock. All that training at 318 paid off-you threw yourselves on a good table early. Which brings me to the Team Gilboa Family: it was like a board meeting...without the Robert's Rules of Order but with some brewskies. Michael Quinliven & Co.: THANK YOU. DJ, The Quinlivens, Tom Alexander,The Eddie Cox Show's production team ( thanks, Eddie and Emily), Keith and Tannis Steffens ( hey T:one "n" or 2?)..it was weird to see all of you above 40 degrees F.  Molly Sigel-been awhile-thanks for wearing your uniform. Melissa was there, too. Dave "Strat-Man" Jaffray, Pat "I Have a New Strat, Too" Noaker-you guys are the best. Molly Malek wouldn't let Hump Night stop her.   Pals Big Al, Amy L, Scott L., and let's not forget our loyal TGT fans Robin & hubby and Heidi.   The Mayor and wife Bea arrived in style via chauffeur Box & Kim, Brett and Heather first timers at a flies show, Ned, Ann, Berry & Katherine..... THANK YOU.

Congratulations to Yale Nelson and the Great Physician! Thanks to Cities 97 and the Basilica Block Party for putting on the event. We'll see you at the Fine Line next month-with some new Maeflies Tunes for you to peruse, to boot. We'll start on time!

May 4, 2007. CJ's Wine Bar. Dear Gigalogue:

Is it a secret when 2 know? CJs of Chan is the best kept secret in the Twin Cities. What a great venue to hear a band, have una cerveza y una vina con sus amigos. We had a wonderful time on our CJ inaugural bash. Friendly folks, great beer and wine list & an intimate listening environment. Christina and Brian-thanks for your support, friends. Now you have some Maeware to, uh, wear. Kim & Boxer, Val, Lee and Bill, Sisters & Troop-including Lindbergh alum Greg Olsen (!). Tami G. kept us company in the front row, Amy and Greg, dedicated fan Jennifer R., Mr. Simply Marvy and friend and our Kipling Ave clan. Congratulations to all the raffle winners....how about them bugs, huh? We'll see you all later this summer...

Saturday April 21, 2007. Mayslack's. Dear Gigalogue:

Is it a verb or a noun? Nobody beats Mayslack's, uh, cold beer. We had a great time with Kentucky Air at the venerable Nordeast saloon Saturday night.  Hey JB-you are Top Dawg at the mixing board-thanks. We thought it all sounded great and you made it easy. John Ostby and Co showed us them great Ostbytunes with Kentucky Air. I just want to go to Diesel Town every time I hear 'em. Thanks to all those braving the late hour (the summer weather helped!): Darril & Pam, Jim Anderson (and cousin Erica), Rick and Darcy, Pohlads and Boehms, Erica T., John Kallestad-from-a-million-years-ago, Joanne Sunquist and Tom (she's my stepmother, man) Pritzker, Blue Eyed Melissa, Doc & Janet LaPage-what were YOU doing up so late so far from home? Karen Hemstad brought fans and gets the award for furthest out-of-town guest. She's may get the award for supporting Simso's musical delusions longer than anyone except his mother (over 25 years).  Kristen L. thanks for the selling our cd overseas and bringing your hubby.  Jon St. Germain made his first Maeflies gig, and brought the Elk River neighborhood association all the way to NE Mpls. Deanne, Susanne and Steve (THANK YOU).  Steve is now in the Maeflies inner-circle after cracking the code on our Maeflies metaphor.

We're lining up a return to the Fine Line, and we are playing next at CJs in Chan. Now this will be a fun venue-get ready for the Maeflies up close and personal with the acoustic, unplugged versions of those Maeflies songs…and a few more. It's a great place to listen and it won't be a late night! See you there………….

Monday April 9, 2007.   Fine Line Music Cafe, Minneapolis.  Dear Gigalogue:

Well, there’s two yellow lines that run from my door to your door. If you keep following them (despite the misplaced linking verb with a plural subject) you wind up at the Fine Line Music Café on a Monday night-with US.  The Maeflies played just one hour of ‘Flies Stuff. Whoa. There was magic in the air….and many, many thanks to all of you who chose to dis real life and all its encumbrances to listen to some homegrown Americana rock and roll….cold libations not withstanding.  Ian Anderson, mission control at the board-you rocked brother & Ryan, too. Biff’s bass was shattering glass in the front row. The kick drum? We saw at least one filling fall out-Spike couldn’t help her…his hands were kinda full, Hippocratic oath or not. The Pocahontas Girls were there-it’s been awhile! Sean W. was swilling a brew at the bar-without a family member onstage-something new.  Molly, Kami and Timbird sent the Sand Man packing and caught the Flies…thanks! Conver Watts sent their diplomats Darril and Pam, of course. It’s always better when you two are there with us. The Mayor & his Bea (current holder of the patented “Maeflies Cookie” treat. A+) were there con amigos y familia. Eve, Ann, Leslie, Jill & Co…I mean it takes pages to recognize that clan. Tireless support. We don’t know how your livers take it. THANK YOU. Jeff E.-the sticker man (among other things). Yo baby.

Pack up the wagon. We’re headed to Mayslack’s April 21st…a SATURDAY NIGHT. Get a sitter if you need one & we’ll see you all there. Bring your fun bag inflated to regulation pressure cause we’re gonna gonna rock the joint.
